Africanized bees
Aggressive hybrid stingers
Africanized bees are a hybrid of African and European honeybees, known for their aggressive defensive behavior.
They attack in larger numbers and pursue threats farther than other honeybees, earning them the sensationalized name "killer bees." Though their venom is no more potent than other honeybees', mass stinging incidents can be fatal.
They spread northward from Brazil after an accidental 1957 release and now inhabit much of the Americas.
