A.D.
Common Era's predecessor
A.D. stands for Anno Domini, Latin for "in the year of the Lord," marking years after the traditionally calculated birth of Jesus Christ.
It follows the year number: The Roman Empire fell in A.D. 476.
The secular alternative C.E. (Common Era) is increasingly used in academic contexts.
Opposite of B.C.
Also written AD.
