Common Era
Post-Christ calendar system
Common Era is a calendar designation equivalent to AD (Anno Domini), marking years from the traditional birth date of Jesus.
The term avoids Christian religious framing while using the same numbering: 2024 CE equals AD 2024.
Paired with BCE (Before Common Era) to replace BC.
The Roman Empire fell in the fifth century of the Common Era.
Standard in academic and secular contexts.
