100m
Track's shortest race
The 100m is the hundred-meter dash, track and field's shortest standard sprint and the event that determines "the fastest human alive." The race lasts under ten seconds for elite athletes: Usain Bolt's 100m world record of 9.58 seconds has stood since 2009.
In everyday use, 100m serves as a distance marker: The bus stop is about 100m down the road.
