Mindlessness is the state of acting without thought or awareness.
It can mean doing something mechanically, without engagement: the mindlessness of assembly-line work.
It also describes thoughtless or stupid behavior: The mindlessness of the vandalism shocked the neighborhood.
The word implies either vacancy of attention or absence of purpose.
