Yuri is a genre of Japanese manga and anime depicting romantic or sexual relationships between women.
The term comes from the Japanese word for lily, a flower associated with feminine beauty and purity.
The genre ranges from innocent schoolgirl crushes to explicit content: She's really into yuri manga.
In Western anime fandom, yuri is sometimes distinguished from "shoujo-ai" (less explicit), though this distinction isn't standard in Japan. (Capitalized Yuri is a given name.)
