wormcasts

Earthworm digestive residue

Wormcasts are the small coils of soil or mud that earthworms leave on the surface after digesting organic matter.

They appear as little mounds or squiggles on lawns, gardens, and paths: The lawn was dotted with fresh wormcasts after the rain.

Gardeners value them as a sign of healthy, aerated soil rich in nutrients.
