wishing tree
Prayer-laden branches monument
A wishing tree is a tree where people tie ribbons, hang notes, or leave offerings while making wishes or prayers.
The practice appears across many cultures, from Celtic traditions to East Asian temples.
In some places, coins are pressed into the bark.
The term also applies to decorative trees at events where guests write wishes for a couple or honoree: Guests hung tags on the wishing tree at the baby shower.
