wire-strung

Held by cables

Wire-strung describes stringed instruments fitted with metal wire strings rather than gut, nylon, or silk.

A wire-strung harp produces a brighter, more sustained tone than its gut-strung counterpart.

The term appears most often in discussions of traditional Celtic harps and early keyboard instruments: a wire-strung clarsach, wire-strung clavichord.
