wipeouts

Falls from boards

Wipeouts are dramatic falls or crashes, especially in surfing and other board sports where a rider loses control and tumbles into the water or onto the ground.

The term extends to any spectacular failure or total defeat: The stock market wipeout destroyed his retirement savings.

A wipeout can also describe something being completely eliminated or erased.

In casual use, wipeouts often carry a note of dark humor, particularly when no serious injury results.
