wild ponies
Untamed small equines
Wild ponies are small horses living in a feral or semi-feral state, often in specific geographic regions where they've become iconic: the wild ponies of Chincoteague, Dartmoor's wild ponies.
Most descend from domesticated stock that escaped or was released, though they've lived free long enough to seem truly wild.
They're smaller and hardier than typical horses.
