wigging
Sharp spoken reprimand
A wigging is a severe scolding or reprimand, chiefly British: The boss gave him a proper wigging for missing the deadline.
The term is somewhat old-fashioned, evoking formal dressing-downs from authority figures.
It derives from the image of bewigged judges or officials delivering stern rebukes.
