white lady

Citrus gin cocktail

A white lady is a cocktail made with gin, Cointreau or triple sec, and lemon juice, shaken and served in a stemmed glass.

The drink dates to the early twentieth century and remains a classic of the cocktail canon: She ordered a white lady at the hotel bar.

A white lady is also a type of ghost in folklore—a spectral woman in pale or white clothing said to haunt a particular location, often associated with tragic death: The castle is supposedly haunted by a white lady. (Capitalized White Lady may refer to a specific ghost legend or cocktail name.)
