white goods

White goods are large household appliances, typically finished in white enamel: refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, dishwashers.

The term persists even as appliances now come in stainless steel and other finishes.

In retail and real estate contexts, white goods often distinguish major appliances from smaller electronics: The kitchen comes with white goods included.

In textiles, white goods refers to household linens—sheets, towels, tablecloths—traditionally sold in white.
