well tequila
Cheap bar spirit
Well tequila is the cheapest tequila a bar stocks, kept in the "well"—the speed rack of house liquors within easy reach of the bartender.
When you order a margarita or tequila shot without specifying a brand, you get well tequila: The well tequila here tastes like paint thinner.
Contrast with "call" (mid-range, requested by name) and "top shelf" (premium).
