weeping rock

Moisture-dripping stone formation

A weeping rock is a rock face or formation from which water seeps continuously, creating the appearance of tears or crying.

The phenomenon occurs when groundwater finds its way through porous stone and emerges at the surface: The trail passed beneath a weeping rock that kept the ferns perpetually moist.

Such formations often become local landmarks or sacred sites.
