water spiders
Pond-skating eight-leggers
Water spiders are arachnids that live in or around aquatic environments.
The term most often refers to the diving bell spider, the only spider species that spends its entire life underwater, constructing silk air chambers beneath the surface.
More loosely, water spider describes various semi-aquatic spiders that hunt on water surfaces or along shorelines.
We spotted water spiders skating across the pond.
