camel spiders
Fast desert hunters
Camel spiders are large arachnids found in deserts worldwide, technically called solifuges rather than true spiders.
They gained notoriety during Middle East military deployments, spawning exaggerated internet photos and myths about their size and danger.
Though fast-moving and fearsome-looking, they're not venomous and pose no real threat to humans: I found a camel spider in my tent.
