water softeners
Ion exchange systems
Water softeners are devices that remove minerals—primarily calcium and magnesium—from hard water.
Hard water leaves scale deposits in pipes and appliances and makes soap lather poorly.
Most water softeners work by ion exchange, replacing the offending minerals with sodium.
We installed a water softener after the buildup ruined our water heater.
