medieval tapestries
Castle wall decorations
Medieval tapestries are large woven textiles from roughly the 5th through 15th centuries, typically depicting religious scenes, hunting parties, or courtly life.
They served as both decoration and insulation in drafty stone castles and cathedrals.
The most famous examples include the Bayeux Tapestry and the Unicorn Tapestries.
Today the phrase often describes any ornate wall hanging suggesting that era's craftsmanship: The hotel lobby was decorated with medieval tapestries.
