war worker

Homefront production employee

A war worker is someone employed in industries supporting a military effort—manufacturing weapons, ammunition, vehicles, or other supplies needed for warfare.

The term is most associated with World War II, when millions of civilians, especially women, entered factories to replace enlisted men: Rosie the Riveter became the symbol of the American war worker.
