war trophies
Captured enemy items
War trophies are items taken from defeated enemies or battlefields as proof of victory or mementos of combat.
Traditionally these included captured flags, weapons, or enemy insignia; more grimly, they have included body parts.
The practice extends to any spoils claimed after conflict: He kept the officer's pistol as a war trophy.
Figuratively, anything won through struggle may be called a trophy.
