voice note
Spoken digital missive
A voice note is a short audio recording sent as a message, typically through a smartphone app.
Unlike a phone call, voice notes are asynchronous—you record and send, the recipient listens when convenient.
They split the difference between the immediacy of speech and the flexibility of text: I'll send you a voice note while I'm driving.
The term is sometimes used interchangeably with voice message or voice memo.
