video stores
Movie lending places
Video stores were retail shops where customers rented movies on VHS tapes or DVDs, typically for a few days at a time.
They dominated home entertainment from the 1980s until streaming services made them largely obsolete by the 2010s.
Blockbuster was the iconic chain: Remember when we'd browse the aisles at the video store on Friday nights?
The term now evokes nostalgia for a pre-digital era.
