velopharyngeal
Palate-nose passage junction
Velopharyngeal describes the relationship between the soft palate (velum) and the back wall of the throat (pharynx).
The term appears almost exclusively in medical and speech pathology contexts, particularly regarding the closure that separates the oral and nasal cavities during speech and swallowing: velopharyngeal insufficiency, velopharyngeal dysfunction.
