veldts
South African plains
Veldts is the plural of veldt, the open grassland of southern Africa.
The landscape is flat or gently rolling, with few trees—distinct from jungle or forest.
The word comes from Afrikaans and Dutch, meaning "field." The veldts stretched endlessly toward the horizon.
