unstocking

Removing from inventory

Unstocking is the act of removing items from where they are stored or displayed, the opposite of stocking.

In retail contexts, it typically refers to taking merchandise off shelves, whether for returns, inventory adjustments, or clearance.

The staff spent the morning unstocking discontinued products.

The term also applies to depleting supplies more generally: We're unstocking the warehouse before the renovation.
