Unspinning is the act of reversing or undoing a spin—either literally, as in unwinding something that has been twisted, or figuratively, as in countering spin in the public relations sense.
To unspin a story is to strip away the favorable framing and reveal what actually happened: The journalist spent months unspinning the company's version of events.
