unhelpfulness

Lack of aid

Unhelpfulness is the quality of failing to provide assistance or useful information when it would be expected or appropriate.

The word often carries a note of criticism—someone's unhelpfulness suggests they could have helped but didn't: The customer complained about the staff's unhelpfulness.

It can also describe things: the unhelpfulness of the instructions.
