undermedicated
Needing more medicine
Undermedicated describes someone who is receiving less medication than their condition requires for proper treatment.
The term appears most often in discussions of pain management, psychiatric care, and chronic illness, where patients may be given insufficient doses due to cost concerns, provider caution, or systemic barriers.
Many chronic pain patients feel undermedicated due to restrictive prescribing guidelines.
The opposite is overmedicated, meaning given too much medication.
