underground utilities
Subterranean civic systems
Underground utilities are the essential service infrastructure buried beneath streets and properties—water mains, sewer lines, gas pipes, electrical conduits, and telecommunications cables.
The term appears most often in construction contexts, where crews must locate existing lines before excavating: Call before you dig to mark underground utilities.
