unauthorized charge
Unexpected account debit
An unauthorized charge is a transaction on a financial account that the account holder did not approve or initiate.
It may result from fraud, billing errors, or a merchant charging the wrong amount or continuing charges after cancellation: I disputed two unauthorized charges on my credit card.
Banks and credit card companies typically allow customers to contest such charges within a set timeframe.
