type I error
Mistaken rejection, statistics
A type I error is a false positive—rejecting something true.
In statistics, it means concluding an effect exists when it doesn't, like a medical test detecting a disease the patient doesn't have.
The term pairs with type II error (false negative).
The study's type I error rate was set at five percent.
