twisted wire
Wound metal filament
Twisted wire consists of two or more conductors wound around each other in a helical pattern.
The twisting reduces electromagnetic interference by canceling out external noise that would affect both wires equally.
Telephone cables and Ethernet connections use twisted pairs: Cat 5 cable contains four twisted wire pairs.
The technique dates to early telegraphy.
