turn back time

Undo the past

To turn back time is to reverse what has happened, returning to an earlier state—usually an impossible wish.

The phrase expresses longing to undo mistakes, recover lost opportunities, or recapture the past: If I could turn back time, I never would have said those things.

Sometimes used for actual reversal, as with clocks at the end of daylight saving time.
