trolley buses
Overhead-wired transit vehicles
Trolley buses are electric buses powered by overhead wires rather than onboard fuel.
Unlike trams or streetcars, they run on rubber tires and can maneuver somewhat independently of fixed tracks, though they remain tethered to their power lines.
Common in European and Asian cities, they combine the efficiency of electric power with the flexibility of buses: The city replaced its diesel fleet with trolley buses.
