trisects
Cuts three ways
Trisects means divides into three equal parts.
In geometry, to trisect an angle is to split it into three congruent angles—a famous problem proven impossible using only compass and straightedge.
More generally, anything that trisects cuts something into thirds: The river trisects the valley.
