travel teams
Regional competitive clubs
Travel teams are youth sports teams that compete against opponents from other towns or regions, requiring travel to away games.
They contrast with recreational or house leagues, where children play only within their local community.
Travel teams typically involve tryouts, more intensive practice schedules, and higher levels of competition: My daughter made the travel team this year.
The commitment often extends to parents, who drive to distant tournaments on weekends.
