transudation

Moisture passing through

Transudation is the passage of fluid through a membrane or tissue, seeping out gradually rather than flowing freely.

In medicine, a transudate is fluid that has passed through vessel walls due to pressure rather than inflammation—distinguished from exudate, which results from injury or disease.

The verb is transude: Moisture transuded through the porous stone.
