transudate
Passive membrane leakage
Transudate is fluid that passes through a membrane or tissue, typically accumulating where it shouldn't.
In medicine, it describes fluid that seeps into body cavities due to pressure imbalances rather than inflammation—distinguishing it from exudate, which results from injury or infection.
The pleural transudate indicated heart failure rather than pneumonia.
