trail markers
Signs showing direction
Trail markers are signs, symbols, or objects placed along a path to guide hikers and prevent them from losing their way.
They take many forms: painted blazes on trees, cairns (stacked stones), posts, or colored tags.
Follow the blue trail markers to the summit.
The term extends to any system of wayfinding indicators along a route.
