toenailing

Slanted nail driving

Toenailing is a carpentry technique of driving a nail at an angle through the end or side of one board into another, used when you can't nail straight through: He toenailed the studs to the bottom plate.

The method creates a stronger joint than end-nailing in many situations.

Also called skew nailing.
