tobacco plantations
Cash crop farms
Tobacco plantations are large agricultural estates devoted to growing tobacco, historically associated with the American South and Caribbean.
The term evokes the brutal plantation system built on enslaved labor from the 17th through 19th centuries: Virginia tobacco plantations depended entirely on slave labor.
Modern usage may refer to large-scale tobacco farming operations without the historical connotations.
