tobacco ceremony
Ritual plant offering
A tobacco ceremony is a sacred ritual in many Indigenous North American cultures in which tobacco is offered to spirits, ancestors, or the Creator as an act of prayer, gratitude, or petition.
The tobacco may be burned, placed on the ground, or offered to water.
We began the gathering with a tobacco ceremony.
The practice reflects tobacco's spiritual significance in these traditions, distinct from its recreational use elsewhere.
