to give
Transfer to another
To give is to transfer something from yourself to another—objects, money, attention, time.
The core idea is outward movement: you give a gift, give directions, give a speech, give someone a hard time.
What's given can be abstract: Give me a chance, Give it some thought.
To give way is to yield or collapse.
To give in is to surrender.
To give up can mean quit or abandon hope.
Something gives when it bends or breaks under pressure: The floor gave beneath him.
As a noun, give is flexibility or resilience: There's no give in this fabric.
