time served
Prison term finished
Time served refers to the period a person has already spent in custody, typically credited against a prison sentence.
A defendant held in jail awaiting trial may have that time deducted from their eventual sentence: With time served, he'll be out in six months.
The phrase also appears as a modifier: a time-served sentence means the person has already completed their punishment and walks free at sentencing.
