the hill

Small land elevation

The hill is an informal way of referring to any prominent elevation in a local area, often used when context makes clear which hill is meant: We hiked up the hill behind the house.

The phrase can also describe something difficult or challenging: It's all downhill from here—we're over the hill. (Capitalized The Hill refers to Capitol Hill or the political publication.)
