terebinth

Mediterranean resin tree

A terebinth is a small Mediterranean tree that produces turpentine and has been valued since antiquity for its resin, timber, and edible seeds.

The tree appears frequently in biblical texts, where significant events occur beneath terebinths: Abraham pitched his tent by the terebinth of Mamre.
