tenuring

Securing academic employment

Tenuring is the act of granting tenure—permanent employment status that protects against arbitrary dismissal.

The term appears almost exclusively in academic contexts, where universities tenure professors after a probationary period: The committee is tenuring three candidates this year.

It can also describe the process more broadly: The tenuring of faculty has become increasingly competitive.
