tenches
Slimy bottom feeders
Tenches is the plural of tench, a freshwater fish native to Europe and western Asia.
The tench is a sturdy, olive-green fish with small scales and a distinctive barbel at each corner of its mouth.
It favors slow-moving or still waters with muddy bottoms: We caught several tenches in the old mill pond.
